FAQ

  1. Why choose an ABR certified diagnostic medical physicist?
    • An ABR Certified Diagnostic Medical Physicist is someone who has passed a rigorous training and screening process through the American Board of Radiology in the field of diagnostic physics. The person must demonstrate the ABR standards of knowledge in patient safety, public safety, and imaging chains in the modalities of MRI, CT, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, Radiography, and Ultrasound. ABR certified physicists are nationally recognized experts in their field, fully meeting the definition of “Qualified Medical Physicist” by the ACR, Joint Commission, and State of California (note: California must also license physicists for mammography).
  2. Why choose Therapy Physics?
    • Therapy Physics currently employs 6 ABR certified medical physicists, all based in the Southern California area. You are guaranteed to have an ABR certified physicist on site to perform your testing. Our physicists meet all State of California and Federal standards for diagnostic medical physicists, and are all licensed for mammography and qualified for 3D tomography.
  3. Does Therapy Physics provide physics services in my area?
    • Therapy Physics operates out of Southern California. We are available to provide testing in California, Idaho and Alaska. Please contact us to see if we can provide services to your facility.
    • Therapy Physics is available to provide on-site diagnostic physics services throughout the Western United States, including California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Nevada. Please contact us to see if we can provide services to your facility.
  4. I am opening a new facility in California providing fluoroscopic services. What do I need in terms of physics testing?
    • To stay in compliance with California Title 17, we can provide you with acceptance testing on your C-Arm, as well as a survey of the room to verify that radiation exposure to the public is within normal limits. Our reports are provided in an easy to read format that is accepted by State inspectors. In addition, you will need to review the requirements for fluoroscopy facilities on the RHB website.
  5. I am opening a new facility in California providing mammographic services. What do I need in terms of physics testing?
    • Our physicists are licensed by the State of California for mammography, and are qualified to test tomography units. We will provide you with acceptance testing, and in most cases we can provide you with the report for the State of California and FDA on the same day as the testing.
  6. My hospital is currently certified under the Joint Commission. What do I need to know about their new Standards, published July 2015?
    • As of July 2015, the publication standards require annual testing on all MRI and CT scanners by a “Qualified Medical Physicist” (see above). In addition, following a unit replacement or new installation, you will need a safety survey of the room to verify that the scatter exposure to the public is within federal regulations. For more information, please visit the Joint Commission website.
